Project outline
The “Politechnika” stop was built at the underground section of the Fast Tram line in Cracow. The facility comprises the following three elements: a base building, a pedestrian underpass together with a staircase on the eastern side and staircases on the western side.
The base building comprises a double span reinforced concrete box designed as a monolithic structure. The underpass was built in the same technology, while the external staircases were built partly in the form of a closed single-chamber rectangular frame, and partly in the form of a reinforced concrete half-frame open at the top.
The facility is one of the busiest public transport stops in Cracow. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Kraków Główny railway station, the Galeria Krakowska shopping centre and the Cracow University of Technology. The stop has two tram platforms.
Greatest challenges
Performing construction works in the vicinity of a monument of history – Bastion V of the Lubicz Fort.
Key moment
Constructing the base building of the stop in the technology of a monolithic reinforced concrete box.
