PeBeKa examines new deposits
Geological and exploration work is underway in Grębocice Municipality, the purpose of which will be to investigate and document the copper ore deposits in the Retków-Ścinawa area. PeBeKa employees are drilling the second out of three planned boreholes.
PeBeKa's project envisages drilling holes within the licence for exploration and investigation of copper deposits in this region. Crucially, investigation will cover the "Retków” copper ore deposit and the eastern part of the "Głogów” deposit, stretching towards the east over the "Gawrony-Ścinawa” area to increase the resources.
The work on the second out of the three exploratory boreholes, designated as S-812, was started
on 9 February this year. The work consists in drilling a hole and its appropriate development in accordance with
the approved geotechnical design as well as in carrying out a number of geophysical and hydrogeological
tests. Employees of the Surface Drilling Work Management did the coring of shell limestone and upper Roethian Buntsandstein as well as selected intervals of the middle and lower Buntsandstein. Also the entire interval of the Zechstein formation was cored. During full-diameter drilling, samples of winning from sludge screens were taken in order to accurately determine the layers drilled through and, thus, to find out the lithographic and stratigraphic profile of the borehole.
That work is carried out by a MR 6000 drilling rig. Ultimately, the S-812 hole will reach a depth of 1450 m, with a capacity to be deepened in order to reach the geological goal.
Standard 18 5/8”, 13 3/8”, 9 5/8” and 7” lining pipes were already furnished into the hole. The last column of 7” lining pipes was used as liner, i.e. was suspended on a special hanger 50 m above the bottom of the 9 5/8” pipes. The S-812 borehole will likely be complete at the end of April and - just the first drilled S-759 hole - will be used in future as a piezometer.
The next hole to be made will be S-760 with a depth of approx. 1400 m, the drilling of which will start after the rig is moved and set up at the new location.
The project investor is KGHM Polska Miedź.
