Celebration in Głogów I Copper Smelter
The Polish President Andrzej Duda took part in the official start-up of a modernised installation in the Głogów I Copper Smelter. PeBeKa was one of the general contractors for this important pyrometallurgy modernisation project.
The modernisation consisted in replacing an out-of-date and arduous for the environment technology based on concentrates being remelted in shaft kilns with a technology based on the world's largest suspension roasted and an electric kiln. As part of the investment, a complex of suspension roaster and electric kiln houses was built in the Głogów I Copper Smelter. Also, a power building with an electric turbine and a steam drier was erected. The most modern (and world's largest) production line was built, with a production capacity of 250 thousand tonnes of copper per year.
On Friday, 21 January, the celebration of its official start-up was attended by the Polish President Andrzej Duda, who in his speech stressed the investment significance not only for Głogów and KGHM, but also for Poland. Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Kopalń PeBeKa - one of the five general contractors - was represented during the start-up by the Mirosław Skowron,President, and Piotr Fedoszczak, project manager on PeBeKa's part.
In the Głogów I Copper Smelter, Przedsiębiorstwo Budowy Kopalń PeBeKa carried out construction and installation works from the third quarter of 2014. The scope of works carried out by our company covered e.g. construction of the blower station building III related to the technological air blow installation, the branch distribution station and the switchhouse, as well as the fabrication and assembly of the trestles for the external circulation together with technological installations, and construction of housings for overband electromagnetic separators the purpose of which is to eliminate metal elements from copper concentrate. The PeBeKa team also erected trestles and pipelines for the external cooling circulation for the purpose of the sulphuric acid plant and opened the sulphuric acid plant (stages III/I and III/II) in the P-6 division.
Apart from PeBeKa, the following general contractors are participating in the pyrometallurgy modernisation project: consortium Polimex-Tulcon, Mostostal-Kraków, Mostostal-Zabrze and KGHM Zanam.
