Project outline

The projects carried out by PeBeKa in the Ruhr Coal Basin were the result of the company's 30 years’ presence in the German market during which it had acquired the reputation of a reliable and highly regarded contractor of mining works.

Within the scope of the contract, based on blasting operations, the PeBeKa team drove a heading with the length of 3818 m, connecting two peripheral shafts of the “Auguste Victoria” coal mine. As the heading ran through a geologically unexplored area of the mine, the contractor met unexpected tectonic displacements causing additional problems and slowing down the operations. The team's know-how, perfect work organization and state-of-the-art equipment allowed them to overcome those difficulties.

PeBeKa also constructed headings in the “Auguste Victoria”, “Walsum” and “Ensdorf” coal mines, with the combined length of approximately 8000 m, and two coal storage reservoirs in the “Auguste Victoria” and “West” mines.

Greatest challenges

Performing works in the geologically unexplored area of the mine.

Key moment

Finishing the construction of the heading, thus connecting the two peripheral shafts of the mine.
