The adit constructed by PeBeKa was indispensable for the laying of pipelines carrying purified water from the water treatment plant located on one side of Mount Chmielnik to the equalising reservoir located on the other side. The works were performed within the scope of the project called: “The water supply and sewage treatment systems in Jelenia Góra – the construction of a water supply system and a sewer network”.

Project outline
Before commencing any preparatory, mining or construction works, PeBeKa had prepared documentation related to the safe performance of works and comprising a health and safety plan, a mining works methodology, and blasting documentation. The planned length of the tunnel was approximately 392.5 m; a section of the southern entry with the length of approximately 7.5 m and a section of the northern entry with the length of 6.5 m were to be built in an open-cut excavation. The ceiling has the shape of a circular arch with the diameter of 1.50 m.
The contractor’s extensive experience allowed a smooth execution of the project despite the conditions of rock mass, which were completely different from those provided for in the design documentation, and helped to adjust the blasting technique to tunnel boring operations in the area of unstable rock mass.
Thanks to this project, PeBeKa strengthened its position in the prospective market of specialist projects related to environmental engineering.
Greatest challenges
Boring the tunnel in unstable rock mass.
Key moment
Finalising the tunnel boring operations.
